Every traveller confirms their phone number before they can use the app. The Verified badge means phone verification; we might introduce ID checks as an option in the future.
Travel with your own gender
Some travellers, especially women travelling solo, feel more comfortable with someone of the same gender. Turn on Same gender and your matches and search results only show travellers of your gender.
Reliability reviews
After a shared plan, travellers rate each other. Reviews build a reliability score you can see before you team up.
Report and block
Report a traveller from their profile or a chat. Our team reviews every report, and the other person is never told who reported them. Block anyone in chat at any time.
Content checked before it goes public
Bios, trip descriptions and reviews are reviewed by our team before other travellers see them.
Your details stay private
Other travellers see your first name and family initial, never your full name, date of birth, phone number or email.
Frequently asked questions
Yes. Creating a profile, searching, matching and chatting with other travellers is free. If you book a deal, you pay the travel company directly at the price you claimed.
New Zealand only, for now. Trips are based on a list of popular places across the country, from the Bay of Islands to Milford Sound.
Not at all. You can use Waybound just for deals: search a place and dates, open the Deals tab and claim what you like. No matching needed.

Travel companies post time-limited offers, like a twin room or the last spots on a tour, for specific places and dates. Claim a deal to get a unique discount code and open a chat with the company to sort out your booking. The price you claimed stays locked in, even if the company changes the deal later.
Every traveller is phone-verified. You can report a traveller from their profile or a chat (they're never told who reported them) and block anyone in chat. Bios, trip descriptions and reviews are checked by our team before they go public, and reliability reviews help you choose who to team up with.
Yes, if you want to. It's optional and off by default, so you see travellers of every gender unless you change it. Some travellers, especially women travelling solo, prefer to match only with travellers of their own gender. Turn on Same gender in your matching preferences, and while Only show matching is on, your matches and search results only show travellers of your gender. It filters what you see, so others can still view your profile and message you, and you can block anyone in chat.
Your first name and family initial (for example Emma S.), age, gender, country, photo, bio, interests and upcoming trips. They never see your full family name, date of birth, phone number or email.
